A nifty little electric that can go 35 MPH to take advantage of the new Texas Law allowing NEV's to be driven on roads posted up to 45 MPH... 25mph speed of most neighborhood electric vehicle (fancy golf carts) would be scary on 45mph roads, but 35mph... plus a possible $5,000 off makes these an interesting choice (cost leaves big dollars left to integrate in a netbook or iphone :) )

Wake up, or loose the Internet
As many know the control of information is a powerful tool and letting ISPs and other businesses have that is exactly what John McCain has proposed.
"...there have been many examples of ISPs interfering with network traffic. They backed down when they were caught, but their frameworks for blocking certain traffic are ready for action at the drop of a hat."
http://www.infoworld.com/d/hardware/net-neutrality-stupid-stupid-does-179?source=IFWNLE_nlt_daily_2009-10-26
Now consider though that Internet Smut and Spam and Pirating might be easier to eliminate as appropriate with some controls, this is not a clear cut issue. But as suggested too much control could build a perfect storm. Before making a decision you should research what controls are being granted in McCain's propsoal and which are proposed for the FCC to have. This is not a ten second sound bite issue.

The Nook (E-Book Reader released)
Barnes and Noble's E-Reader finally arrives... I'm a bit disappointed that the MS-Office compatibility that Plastic Logic has been working on didn't make this release, but they did add color to this reader.

Back on Track and a cheap HD video recorder to boot...
My son has finally just about finished his Varsity Marching Band. With 5 hours per day of practice (before school, during school, and after) these last couple months we could all use the rest. His team did great placing in the top ten at the finals in the Texas State Band Competition.
This is the new flip video I wish I would of had though... Two hours of HD quality with HDMI and USB connecttors, YouTube, FaceBook, and other video conversion software all included for a retail of less than $230? I have only seen this slide show and there may be better ones out there, but it looks like it is time to go HD Digital finally.

Smartphone growth patterns...
I believe Google has this right, but think all of them are wrong in thinking it will take until 2020 for mobile device applications to saturate. The web for small screens is what should happen, can you really invision yourself paying for apps constantly? The iPhone and other smartphones are neat, but the Opera browser on my son's Nintendo DSi works very well with no monthly costs at all. If these guys don't pay attention my next phone may well be a Nintendo DSi (2?) with Skype.

Bing vs. Google
Although I find this information of little use now there has already been an eye-tracking study done between the two big search engines (Bing=Microsoft's new search - VS - Google).
http://www.usercentric.com/about/news_item.php?m_id=4&s_id=4&id=227&utm_source=WhatCountsEmail&utm_medium=OCLC+Abstracts&utm_campaign=OCLC+Abstracts
It is interesting, but eye movement will bound to be different on Bing for many months until people see the differences. A better study would be several months from now when the new car smell starts to wear out.

Unified Threat Managment (UTM) : Better than filters and firewalls
"... each with its own administrative interface, and each representing a possible point of failure in the network. There had to be a better way, especially for smaller companies that couldn't afford a massive staff to feed and care for the relay racks full of appliances -- and thus, the unified threat manager (UTM) was born."

How is your life backed up?
If your wallet or purse was stolen do you know what was in it? What if your house were destroyed by fire or your computer crashes?
Is everything in your library in your OPAC? If not why? If you are keeping it, it must have value right? Are you keeping a verticle file still and if so who knows what is in it? Are your promotion brochures available online?
